NEW DELHI: For the fourth time in a row, the Prime Minister's Office has once again denied appointment to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed the Assembly that plantation sector will be exempted from the Ecologically Fragile Lands (EFL) Act.

KOCHI: The North Paravur police have arrested a person wanted in connection with various murder cases in Ernakulam. The arrested was identified as Shan alias Chakku, 27, a resident of Kottuvally village.

PALAKKAD: A 49-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant near the premises of Integrated Rural Technology Centre at Mundur. The dead has been identified as C Prabhakaran, son of Valekkad Cherootty, of Puthupariyaram.

 
         Man dies after fall from tree    
 
ALAPPUZHA: A panchayat ward member died after a bough fell on him while he was cutting a tree at Karuvatta, near Haripad. The dead was identified as Nazeer, 32, representing Ward 10 of the Punnapra South grama panchayat.

 
         Three-member gang held for burglary    
 
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police have arrested a three-member gang suspected to be responsible for a series of burglaries in the district. They identified the accused as Jasmin Kumar, Kattalan Binu, and Shimi Kuttan.

 
         Youths killed in accident    
 
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two youths on motorcycles were killed in an accident on the Venjaramoodu-Pothencode road. The dead were identified as Karthik, 19, of Netaji Nagar, Thonnakkal, and Arun, 25, of Kanjirampara, Venjaramoodu.

KOCHI: The Nedumbassery police have arrested Siddique Rehman, 64, a native of Athirampuzha in Kottayam, who entered the international passenger terminal of the Cochin airport using an invalid flight ticket.

KOCHI: Ending a wait that lasted nearly two days, the bodies of the two youths, who had been washed away by waves from the Kuzhupilly beach on Saturday, were recovered on Monday.

KOZHIKODE: Three persons sustained serious injuries when an old house at Mukhadar collapsed on Sunday evening. The police said 12 persons escaped with minor injuries.

 
         Two more in custody in North Paravur temple theft case    
 
KOCHI: The police team probing the back-to-back thefts at two temples in North Paravur took two more persons in custody. Officials said Shaji Mathew and Mahesh were picked up from a hideout near Pollachi in Tamil Nadu.

KASARAGOD: A Class X student committed suicide by jumping into the well in the compound of her house at Manjeswaram. She was apparently upset about her brothers not handing over the television remote control.

KOCHI: An employee of Kerala Water Authority sustained serious injuries after the wheels of a private bus ran over her legs at Elamkulam Tuesday evening. The police said that Shamili, 26, of Kadavantra, was admitted to a private hospital.

 
         Man jumps off boat    
 
KOCHI: V K Krishnan, former president of Elamkunnapuzha panchayat, jumped off a boat in which he was travelling. Police officials at the Mulavukad station said that Krishnan, 72, a local leader of the CPI (M), and resident of Vattathara house at Malippuram, had left a suicide note showing that he was in emotional distress.
