KALA leads with literary evening
The
literary evening organised by Kerala Art and Literary Association
(KALA) in Camberly ,Surrey was another unique event. KALA
again is leading others as in their symbol of lighted lamp.
Childrens poems, English literature, Malayalam literature
and the recital of Malayalam poems - all main sections of
the evening were rich in content, variety
in genre and enjoyable to listen to. The selection of the
discussion and presentation was so varied that even a novice
to literature would have run into a nearest library and grab
a book to enjoy the pleasure of reading.
Eight year old Sarayu
amazed others by reading a Roald Dahl`s poem to the delight
of the audience.Sarayu was actually enjoying the recital on
stage.She had managed to bring out the beauty of Roald Dahl`s
poem to the mainly adult audience. Another young child Aparna
Sekhar presented her appreciation of CS Lewis and The Lion,
the Wich and the Wardrobe. The talk including
the bio data on the author was interesting and appealing.
Dr Ravi Menon lead discussion on history of Kozhilkkode was
revealing and thorough.From a modest introduction Ravi Menon
went into great detail of the book "Kozhikkodinte Charithram:
Mythukalum Yatdarthyavum" by Balakrishna Kurup. Fresh
and unbiased thought
of an young person came through this enthusiastic and engaging
presentation which made the reading and discussion of history
a delight.
Mrs.Prabha Sekhar`sand Mrs. Anupama Rajeevs poem recitals
were served as sweets at the feast of KALA literary discussion.Prabha
Sekhars
Vayalar poem "Sathyathinethra vayassayi?" was rendered
with the strength and beauty of the poem. The oral poemappealed
to another level of sensibility through this recital. Mrs.
Anupama Rajeevs poem was by Kareeppuzha Sreekumar`s "Njananu
sahyan" . Todays burning issue of environment came through
the vigorous recital. KALA`s star
performeragain surprised the audience.
Dr VK Nanus subject was Sanjara sahithyam by SK Pottakadu.
From the general discussion of SK Pottakadu to the writing
on Africa Dr VK Nanu gave a detailed presentation on "Sanjara
sahithyathinte raja silpi". Dr
Santhosh Pillai and Mrs. Shantha Krishnamurthy were exploring
the writingsof MT Vasudevan Nair. Dr Santhosh Pillais appreciation
of "Randamoozham" and Mrs. Shantha Krishnamurthys
discussion on "Manje" were as sweet as MTs original
writing.
Mr.Ramachandran, Dr. Sethumadhavan, Dr.M.K.Ramachandran, Mrs
Gouri Menon, Dr. Narayana Pillai, Mr. Murali Nair, Mr. Bala
Sanker discussed and presented various books of literature.
Mr.K. Natarajan and Mr.Unni Krishnan`s presentation worked
as comic relief in the middle of the often serious discussion
on literature.
As chairman Dr Ali again proved his enormous contribution
to the literary evening. KALA president Mrs.Geetha Menon thanked
the eighty strong audience. KALA has lot to be proud of this
unique cultural event - another first for KALA. -MS
