Greenwich Uni Boys holds MKC to lift Five-A-Side
football trophy in Kent

-- The first ever five-a-side football tournament organised
by the Malayalee communities living in Kent was a huge success.
The one day tournament, held at the Black Lion Leisure Centre
Indoor Stadium recently, saw seven teams participating with
hoards of supporters cheering their respective teams.
The tournament was for kids and adults. The tournament was
also a selection process for setting up a Kent Football Team
to participate in upcoming tournaments all over the UK.
The kids section had two teams and they played a Best of
Three match in which Arsenal Kids were beaten by Manchester
Kids and lifted the juniors UK Malayalee trophy. The Seniors
UK Malayalee trophy was clinched by Greenwich University Boys
who had to toil hard to beat the formidable Medway Kerala
Commuity. The Medway Keralite Community Football team gave
a good performance througout the tournament. Their Johnson
Pandary and Binoy Sebastian were adjudged the highest goal
scorer and the best goal scorer respectively.
The five senior teams had to play a league format and the
top two winners played the finals. The tournament was played
in the full fun and spirit of the game and therefore everyone
saw the best football and the lighter side of things as well.
The tournament started with all the participants sitting
in a circle in the centre of the indoor stadium and introducing
each other to know among each other as there were several
new faces.
The gathering decided on how the whole days format will be
and after it the five team captains held a meeting with the
main referees of the day Jose Stephen, Thomas Pinto and Shibu
Pillai who explained the rules and the league format and the
points to them. The five senior teams were Medway Kerala Community,
Unfit United, Greenwich University Boys, Poets Corner, Medway
Boys.
The tournament was inaugurated with a kick off by two senior
citizens from Medway Mr Krishna Pillai and Mr Madhavan Pillai.
The inaugural match was between Poets Corner and Medway Kerala
Commuity (MKC) in which MKC secured the first win. After all
the league matches the finalist were Greenwich University
Boys and Medway Kerala Commuity in which Greenwich University
Boys clinched the UK Malayalee sponsored cup.
The Best Player of the tournament title went to Albert Thomas
from the Poets Corner team and the top scorer trophy went
to Johnson Pandary from the MKC team
The Arsenal kids were represented by Nithin Jacob, Akhil
Balagopal, Arjun Menon, Aaron Edward and Mibin Dominic. The
Manchester Kids were represented by Erik, Ebin Varghese, Joel
Dominic, Anudh and Jerry.

The seniors five teams were:
Medway Kerala Community were represented by Bijoy Puthoor,
Johnson Pandary, Justin Jacob, Jerry Dominic, Binoy Sebastian,
Ciji Cyriac, Renjith, Dileep.
Unfit United were represented by Dipu Pillai, Balagopal,
Shibu Pillai, Sterlin Edward, Saji Jacob, Sunny Jacob, Dr
Ajay Menon, Rajan Pillai
Greenwich University Boys were represented by Nithin, Jeswin,
Shivajith, Naveed, Nithil, Deepu, Rageeth
Poets Corner were represented by Jose Stephen, John Varghese,
Vinod, Pinto Thomas, Albert Thomas, Alfred Thomas.
Medway Boys were represented by Savi, Benni, Ebin Ephrem,
Shaji Thomas, Dominic Ulahanna, Monachan.
