JALANDHAR BISHOP: Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulackal has said he had thought of resigning from his post as soon as sexual abuse allegations were raised against him by a nun but he backed out from the decision after his colleagues advised him.

“Other bishops in the church advised me if I resigned at this point it would be tantamount to accepting the accusations. Thus respecting their words, I stepped back from the decision,” Bishop told a national media.

“Anti-church elements are the force behind nuns striking in Kochi. They are the sisters who were with the nun at Missionaries of Jesus. After the police clarified that there is no evidence to arrest me, they have come out with such pressure tactics as a last resort.

The five nuns who are with the complainant are the sisters who are living in Kerala without the prior permission of the church. The strike have maligned the image of the church. Now what is happening is media trial. They have given the verdict that I’m guilty,” he said on Tuesday, adding that he has not got any notice from the police.
