THIRUVANNATHAPURAM: CPI State secretary Kanam Rajendran has said that future development programmes had to be planned after learning lessons from the experience gained during deluge.

In the Left front’s manifesto, what is said is about the development plans with nature and human beings as its focal points.
There should be equal importance for nature, man and all living beings. In the development of Kerala, what is more important is to correct what has to be corrected and move forward.

Kanam said people should not wish to build any number of storeys anywhere. No one should insist on staying along riverside. The Centre should change criteria for allotting relief packages.

“Each one worked with unity to save life of many in the flood but now it seems that unity is slowly losing steam. The opinion of three Left MLAs in the assembly, mindless of environmental issues, is not the opinion of the Left Front or the CPM.

We have never said that Madav Gadgil’s observation is wrong. In the workshop CPM will hold to discuss development agenda in October, Gadgil will not be present due to personal inconvenience but his papers will be submitted.

In the rebuilding process, it was not the decision of the LDF to appoint KPMJ as a consultant. It was the decision of the cabinet…it decided to accept the free service, which was taken guided. This doesn’t mean that the government will do only what they say.

Kanam also sounded optimistic about the investigation in Jalandhar bishop’s case.
