SHIMLA: At least two persons were killed and 42 injured when a Himachal Pradesh Roadways Transport (HRTC) bus fell into a gorge near Chintpurni on Sunday, police said.

The bus was going to Punjab's Hoshiarpur from Himachal Pradesh's Chintpurni, Una SP Diwakar Sharma said.

The SP, who reached the spot soon after getting information about the incident, said, "Rescue operation is on."

The deceased and most of the injured were reported to be pilgrims who were returning home after paying obeisance at Chintpurni temple, police said.

The injured are being admitted to nearby hospitals. The toll in the incident may rise as some of the passengers of the bus have suffered grievous injuries.
