THRISSUR:  The Irinjalakuda Additional District Sessions Judge, G Gopakumar, has sentenced a man to sever years of rigorous imprisonment for murdering his wife.

The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on Kodakara Vettil Venugopal, 50, of Pulloott, who killed his wife Jisha, 30, on March 24, 2015.

Jisha and Venugopal were staying in a rented house at Chappara. They had a fight and Venugopal attacked Jisha. He even refused to take the injured woman to the hospital. Jisha died of her injuries the next day.

The court also asked the District Legal Service Authority to take action to ensure compensation and rehabilitation of the four minor children of Jisha.
