THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has decided to take back the land illegally held by a private person in Varkala.  District collector had already submitted the report stating that the land allotted to the private person by ex-sub collector and wife of Sabarinath MLA, Divya S Iyer is government’s property.  Government has decided to take back the land under these circumstances.

Collector Dr. Vasuki has instructed the revenue officers to start the survey as part of the procedures for taking over the land.
It was found that the 27-cent land belongs to the government after the land and documents were properly examined.  There were reports earlier that Divya S Iyer’s action to handover this 27 cent land to the private person was illegal.

According to the complaint, it was the person who lived near the disputed land who had encroached it. However, Revenue officers measured the government land after receiving a complaint from the Panchayat. The private person appeared before the district administration and Divya S Iyer who considered the case issued the order to handover the land to him.

V Joy MLA filed a complaint against Divya following this and she clarified that the action was taken in accordance with the Land Acquisition act.

Divya S Iyer was removed as sub-collector following this controversy.
