NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has nullified the high court order that had cancelled the marriage between Sheffin Jahan and Hadiya, who is allegedly a victim of Love Jihad.
“The marriage is legal and the high court doesn’t have the right to cancel such a marriage,” said Chief Justice Dipak Mishra, who passed the order in response to the petition filed by Sheffin Jahan.
It was on May 24, 2017 that the high court cancelled the marriage of Hadiya and Sheffin.
The Supreme Court also said that a marriage could not be cancelled on the basis of Habeas Corpus petition.
