THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Prominent industrialist MA Yusuff Ali said at Loka Kerala Sabha conference on Friday that in near future it would be difficult for educated people in Kerala to get a job in the Gulf. This would have far-reaching implications.

He also criticised Kerala herbals, calling upon political parties to announce hartals 24 hour ahead of its commencement so that NRIs returning home after leave don’t get stranded in airports.

“Kerala is in the 20th place on economic grounds. I’m sad about it. Suggestions that are put forth in Loka Kerala Sabha conference to improve this position should be passed in the assembly without delay,” he said.

Ravi Pillai:
“As all Gulf countries have started employing natives in their firms, the job chances for NRIs have become extremely low. Due to levy system, Malayalis have to pay a heavy amount as tax and just for that reason many are returning to India. Those who have some expertise will only get jobs. Many Malayalis are ready to invest in Kerala. For that there should be Single Window arrangement for NRIs.”

Azad Mooppan
“NRI cooperative societies will be formed in 1000 panchayats to give jobs to Gulf returnees. Health Insurance scheme will also be implemented for them.”

Dr M S Valiyathan
“People abandoning senior citizens has become a usual sight. In this manner about 2.5 per cent people were abandoned and this will reach 20 per cent by 2027.”

Sunitha Krishnan
(Social activist)
“Women should be safe in Kerala if it should really become God’s Own Country. Many women go abroad in search of job. Kerala should be the land of equality.”

Actress Revathy

“Women going to Gulf for jobs should be given training in the systems there. They are taken to these countries with the promises of nurses’ job and they end up as housemaids. They become economically and mentally devastated.”
