SABARIMALA: Devaswom Board president A Padmakumar said on Wednesday that the government had not taken any decision on changing the name of Sabarimala Ayyappa Swami temple to Sree Dharma Shastha temple. “The former Devaswom board had passed a resolution for changing the name but the government has to approve this,” he said at a press conference here.

The administrative committee headed by former president Prayar Gopalakrishnan had issued notification, informing that Sabarimala temple’s name had been changed to Sree Ayyappa Swami Temple. “But for centuries, the temple was known as Sree Dharma Shastha temple and changing that name was not appropriate,” said Padmakumar.

The board headed Prayar Gopalakrishnan had issued the notification pointing out that there were many temples under the name of Sree Dharma Shastha temple and Ayyappa Swami Temple was unique in Sabarimala.
