THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Playback singer K S Chithra has been selected to receive Kerala state government’s Harivarasanam Award this year.

The government honours those prominent personalities who have contributed towards spreading the reputation of the Sabarimala temple with this award each year. The award consists of Rs. 1 lakh cash prize and citation.

The first ‘Harivarasanam Award was given out to Dr. K J Yesudas in 2012. Jayan (Jaya-Vijayan), P Jayachandran, S P Balasubrahmanyam, M G Sreekumar and Gangai Amaran are the others to receive this award until now.
