NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will consider on Monday the appeal filed against Kerala high court order acquitting Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the sensational Lavalin case.
The bench comprising Justice N Ramana and Justice Abdul Nazeer will be considering the petition filed by Kasturi Rangan Iyer and R Sivadas.
Pinarayi Vijayan was acquitted by the high court on August 23.
Former power secretary K Mohanachandran and former joint secretary (power) A Francis were acquitted along with Pinarayi. However, the court had asked KSEB former chairman R Sivadasan, former chief accounts officer K G Rajashekharan Nair and former chief engineer Kasturiranga Iyer to face trial.

Pinarayi was accused of hatching a criminal conspiracy while he was serving as the electricity minister. He along with others named in the case, were accused of awarding the contract for the renovation and modernisation of a few hydroelectric projects to a Canada-based company SNC-Lavalin at exorbitant rates, thereby causing a loss of Rs 374.50 crores to the State. The high court had acquitted him pointing that the charge sheet filed by the CBI did not mention about the financial gains of Pinarayi. The CBI was also not able to explain the role of Pinarayi in the case.
