KASARAGOD: Sporadic incidents of violence were reported from the northern border areas of Kasaragod on the 26th anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition on Wednesday.

Miscreants threw stones at a few vehicles on the national highway late on Tuesday night.

The police said stones were thrown at two Mangaluru-bound Karnataka RTC buses near Uppala, smashing the windowpanes. A private bus plying on the Thalappadi-Anakkallu route was also targeted at Kadambar, near Manjeswaram. Two trucks also came under the attack at Uppala and nearby Surambayal besides a mini-bus at Arikkadi, near Kumbla.

With the police stepping up security, the day remained incident-free, Kumbla Circle Inspector V V Manoj said.

The police, taking cues from isolated incidents of violence on the day in the past, stepped up vigil in vulnerable localities, especially in the northern border areas.
