THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed the district collectors to take special care in ensuring timely and expeditious payment of compensation to the victims of the Ockhi cyclone disaster.

During a video conference with the 14 district collectors, Vijayan wanted them to alert the government in case the compensation amount was insufficient.

Sanitation in the relief camp was very important and no effort should be spared in ensuring basic amenities and food at the camps.

He also wanted them to coordinate the activities of various departments, including health.

He said that in hindsight, the government was considering the possibilities of setting up a system that would enable it to keep a data of fishermen putting out to sea.

Currently, relief work was hampered by the lack of information on those who had gone out to the sea.
